As GCSE and A-Level Results Day approach, we're excited to share the opportunities available at our post-16 education provision at the Cardiff City FC Community Foundation. Located right on the doorstep of Cardiff City FC, we offer a variety of BTEC/NCFE and Degree Courses in collaboration with our dedicated partners.
These programmes cater to different abilities and career pathways, helping young people to further their love of sports and passion for learning. With the support of dedicated tutors, mentoring, and the ability to arrange relevant work experience in the sports industry, we aim to help young people gain qualifications and industry experience to build a career in football.

BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport
The structure of the BTEC Level 2 course is the perfect balance between classroom-based learning and practical activities, run in partnership with Fitzalan High School
Students will work to complete a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport, which is an academic equivalent to 4 GCSEs. We provide fantastic progression opportunities for those learners with aspirations to study a BTEC Level 3, as well as providing the knowledge and skills needed for employment or apprenticeships.
Students will gain the knowledge required for a substantial understanding of the principles of sport. Lesson modules include anatomy, physiology, sports psychology, sports coaching, and sports research.
A unique feature of this programme is the balance between theory and practical learning. Futsal, a fast-paced, small-sided football game, emphasizes technical skill under pressure. We have two modern Futsal courts where students represent Cardiff City FC in the Association of Colleges Futsal League and the FAW Futsal League.

NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity
The NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity is a unique course where students can further their love of sport and passion for learning, run in partnership with Cardiff & Vale College.
Our passionate tutors work closely with each individual to understand their needs to help them progress to university or employment. We support student’s ambition to progress into higher education or employment by mentoring, using our expertise, and our ability to arrange relevant work experience within the sports industry.
As part of the course, students will be offered the chance to complete Essential Skills Wales qualifications and re-sit Maths and English GCSEs. Theoretical lessons cover a wide range of subjects. Units include Anatomy and Physiology, Coaching for Performance and Fitness Testing.
This qualification is equivalent to three A-levels and provides the entry requirements for most major Universities. We also provide students with extra-curricular opportunities throughout the course, including volunteering opportunities with Cardiff City Football Club, and the chance to complete FAW Level 1 coaching qualifications.

Costs: FREE – Learners may receive EMA-WGLG depending on financial circumstances. Learners are able to purchase a Travel Pass (£50) via CAVC’s FCF.
Foundation Degree in Community Football Coaching and Development
The Foundation Degree offers a variety of exciting career paths within the football industry. We work closely with our partners, the EFL Trust and the University of South Wales to ensure that you have the very best learning experience.
All lectures, seminars, and tutorials are delivered through the online learning platform, in a supportive environment. Smaller classrooms allow for more personalised learning to take place.
Alongside the academic element of the course, students will complete up to 200 hours of voluntary coaching within the community, working with Cardiff City FC Community Foundation and Cardiff City FC Academy staff.

This course also allows you to study for a third year to achieve a full BSc level qualification.

The course costs students £8,000 per academic year; however, this cost is covered by student finance.
BA (Hons) in Sports Business and Management
This degree is run in affiliation with EFL Trust and University of South Wales, allowing students to study remotely with Cardiff City FC Community Foundation at Cardiff City House of Sport. This course provides the opportunity to study in the workplace of a professional organisation in this sector, thus enhancing your employment opportunities.
To study this degree, you’ll need a formalised affiliation with a professional Sports club, through the EFL.
Lectures are produced by USW staff, but you study these materials remotely at Cardiff City House of Sport with us. You will also attend USW up to 3-times per year for Residential Study Visits. You’re also assigned a Cardiff City FC Foundation Mentor who facilitates your learning and supports the organisation of your weekly placement.
These experiences will mainly be working within the remit of Cardiff City FC and will give you practical experience of working within the sports business and management industry.
