FIT Bluebirds is a free programme for adults who are looking to lose weight and lead a more active life.
Since launching last year, the Fit Bluebirds programme has helped over 70 fans get active and stay healthy with participants losing on average 5% of their body weight during the free 12-week programme.
With the support of Cardiff City FC Community Foundation coaches, participants are learning how to make better choices around healthy eating and are taking part in fun group activity sessions designed to get them moving.
Fit Bluebird, Stephanie said:
“Its made me more conscious of what I’m eating and drinking, I’ve definitely increased my exercise and, on a mental health and wellbeing scale, its done wonders for me.
We’re encouraged and everything we learn, we learn together. I’m going to be gutted when its finished because it’s been invaluable”
Those who have completed the programme have found the balance of practical activity and theory-based sessions incredibly useful and have learnt how to make better nutritional decisions, lost weight and gained new friends.
Speaking about the programme Cardiff City FC Community Foundation’s EDI Coordinator, Chris Foot said:
"We are really proud of the progress made by our Fit Bluebirds so far and the programme has had far reaching results. As you would expect, many have lost weight and reduced their blood pressure and BMI but alongside those outcomes, we have also seen supporters reporting positive upturns in their mental health, friendships flourish and a tangible, long-lasting community developing from their participation. Previous participants are continuing to meet up after completing the programme to socialise, exercise and even play walking football. Every participant to date has said they would recommend Fit Bluebirds to others!"
Two groups have already completed their 12-week programme and our next begins on Monday 4th September!
By signing up today you’ll get 12 FREE weekly sessions at Cardiff City FC facilities, you’ll meet other Cardiff City fans on the same journey as you and you’ll learn how to make better choices to improve your lifestyle and health!
FIT Bluebirds is a collaboration between the Football Association of Wales and the English Football League Trust (EFL Trust), supported by funding from the Welsh Government’s ‘Healthy Weight: Healthy Wales’ programme.
