Young people promoting gender equality through the Premier League Inspires Challenge
17 Ebrill 2025
On Wednesday 16th April, Cardiff City FC Community Foundation proudly hosted the South West and Wales regional qualifier for the Under-16 mixed and girls’ Premier League Kicks Cup 2025 at Cardiff City House of Sport.
As the host club, they welcomed 11 community teams from across the region to the Capital City of
Wales– uniting young people through a day of football, workshops, and shared
learning experiences. In addition to
showcasing their skills on the pitch, participants took part in engaging
educational workshops.
Participants had the opportunity to take part in a football-themed fitness and endurance session delivered by personal trainer and Fit Bluebirds coach, Matt Jones. The session focused on physical activity and wellbeing, helping players stay warmed up and energised throughout the day.
Young people also took part in a powerful Knife Crime Awareness workshop, which featured an impactful talk from Wes Cunliffe. Wes shared his lived experience and journey of change after surviving a knife attack. His story served as a moving reminder of the importance of early intervention, prevention, and making positive life choices.
Despite a mixed forecast, the weather turned in our favour, setting the scene for a day filled with passion, energy, and fantastic sportsmanship.
A massive well done to our regional winners, who now progress to the Premier League Kicks Cup Finals at St George’s Park in July:
Boys Tournament
Winners: Plymouth Argyle Community Trust
Runners-up: Cardiff City FC Community Foundation
Girls Tournament
Winners: Exeter City Community Trust
Runners-up: Swansea City AFC Foundation
Congratulations to all teams involved on a fantastic achievement.
Medals and awards were handed out by Cardiff City FC Women’s first-team player Grace Evans – fresh from recent success in the Adran League – alongside three Cardiff City Academy scholars, including Foundation Ambassadors Dakari Mafico and Corey Foggarty.
The Premier League Kicks Cup tournament is one of the competition elements of Premier League Kicks. The programme uses the power of football and sport to inspire young people to reach their potential, in some of the most high-need areas of England and Wales.
