20 Mai 2025
Cardiff and Vale College’s Sports Academies have celebrated another outstanding year at the CAVC 2025 Sport Awards.
Cardiff City FC Community Foundation students have continued to excel throughout 2024-25, with their hard work and dedication recognised by both staff and peers. Studying towards the NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Sport & Physical Activity, situated at House of Sport, they have been celebrated for their progression in Futsal, academic achievements and participation in competitions and tournaments.
Many have secured places at leading universities in the sporting field, while others have delivered exceptional academic performances, setting them up to progress into apprenticeships and employment.
A massive congratulations to Olivia Griffiths, Cameron Braund, Maddison Powell, Korey Hughes, Ashton Hamill and Kiera Lacey on winning their well-earned awards that evening.
On the futsal court, Olivia has shown grit, determination and fire. Her passion for the game is clear, and following a breakthrough season, she will now progress into the second year of the qualification. We look forward to seeing how she progresses on and off the pitch.
Cameron is a proud Bluebird and a standout student, consistently producing high-quality work while playing a key role in fixtures. Since joining the course, he has made excellent progress in Futsal and is developing into a confident and capable goalkeeper. As he moves into the second year of the Level 3 course, Cameron hopes to build on his experience by exploring coaching opportunities within the Community Foundation.
Maddie is a force to be reckoned with on the futsal court. With quick feet and rapid speed, she has great ability to take on players and score goals. Maddie’s achievements are clear for those on the team, being voted for in confidence from her peers. Maddie is hoping to progress onto the Community Football Coaching and Development Degree at Cardiff City FC Community Foundation.
Korey is one of the most talented players to step onto our futsal court, having displayed impressive ability in the FAW Futsal League and within the AOC League. With the ability to glide past players effortlessly, he is a joy to watch. Korey is aiming to build a career in the sporting world and hopes to pursue a coaching degree at Cardiff Met University.
Ashton has been a constant threat on the futsal court, combining quick footwork with the strength and power to beat players with ease. A driving force behind his team’s success, his performances have rightly earned him the Player of the Year award. Ashton will continue on the Level 3 course, and we look forward to seeing him go from strength to strength.
Kiera gives her all every time she plays and always brings a smile to the game. Not only is she a devoted fan of Cardiff City, over time she’s also become a proud ambassador of the Community Foundation. Displaying an immense amount of bravery on the futsal court, Kiera has grown in an incredible team player and a great person to coach. We look forward to welcoming Kiera back in September on the Sports Business and Management Degree.
Cardiff City FC Community Foundation are proud to offer an NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Sport & Physical Activity in partnership with Cardiff and Vale College to provide students with an insight into the practicalities of the sports industry, in a non-traditional learning environment.
We also provide students with extracurricular opportunities throughout our courses, including volunteering opportunities with Cardiff City Football Club, and the chance to complete FAW Level 1 coaching qualifications.
Cardiff City FC Community Foundation Head of Further & Higher Education, Matthew Pugh, reflected:
"We’re incredibly proud of our students. Their commitment and resilience both in the classroom and on the pitch, have truly stood out. A huge thank you as well to our dedicated tutors and support staff, whose passion and guidance continue to shape the success of our programme. Congratulations to everyone involved on another fantastic year."
Cardiff and Vale College Principal Sharon James-Evans said:
“I would like to offer my congratulations to our award winners and all of our Sport Academy players. The hard work and dedication that you have all put in this year to balance your study with your commitment to training and participating to your very best in your chosen sport, should be applauded and you’ve made us all very proud.
“I’d also like to thank and congratulate all of the fantastic academy coaching teams and wider College colleagues who have supported our players throughout the year.”
Our passionate tutors work closely with each individual to understand their needs to help them progress to university or employment.
