Premier League supports Cardiff City FC Community Foundation to give free books to local primary school pupils
Cardiff City FC Community Foundation has launched a £125,000 fundraising campaign to celebrate Cardiff City Football Club’s 125th Anniversary season.
The 2024/25 season marks 125 years since the founding of Riverside AFC, which would later gain city status and develop into Cardiff City Football Club.
Donations will directly support both ongoing and new community programmes designed to help children, young people, and adults across South Wales reach their full potential. These programmes include educational initiatives, community outreach work and social isolation projects that inspire hope and a sense of belonging.
Our work currently delivers an estimated £11 million in social impact value through health interventions, educational programmes, and targeted community work.
Throughout the upcoming season, the Community Foundation will host various fundraising events, including Community Foundation Day during the Plymouth Argyle match, a stadium abseil challenge, and a corporate futsal tournament.
Fans are encouraged to devise their own creative activities to raise funds for our work. Meanwhile, the Foundation will also run Cardiff City FC-themed competitions and activities across its programmes to raise additional funds.
On September 1st, our dedicated supporters began their fundraising efforts. Toward Studio, our newest charity partner, participated in the Cardiff 10k, raising over £1,000 (including gift aid). Additionally, City supporter Jacob Lambert completed 125 laps around Cardiff City Football Club's pitch—equivalent to a full marathon—raising an impressive £620.
Gavin Hawkey, Executive Director of Cardiff City FC Foundation, said:
“As the official charity of the Bluebirds, we use the power of football and the Cardiff City brand to achieve our hat-trick of goals, which are improving health and wellbeing, supporting learning and skills, and building stronger communities.
“Celebrating 125 years of Cardiff City FC is about honouring the club’s rich history, while looking forward with a commitment to making a difference. With the incredible support of fans, this £125,000 fundraising campaign will enable us to expand our programmes and continue fostering growth, wellbeing, and a sense of belonging throughout the diverse communities we serve.
“We invite all Cardiff City supporters to join us in this campaign, and get creative with fundraising ideas. Together, we look forward to celebrating this milestone anniversary for the club while creating a lasting legacy for communities across South Wales.”
“I’m thrilled to be part of this campaign. As professional footballers, it’s our responsibility to give back to our community. The money fans and partners raise will provide more opportunities for people in South Wales and will mean the Foundation can help more people than ever. We can’t wait to see what our fans come up with!”
We're proud that our club changes lives, which would not be possible without the support of our funding providers, supporters, and partners. By partnering with us, your organisation can make an extraordinary impact on our work to change lives and transform communities across South Wales.
