Hashim Mustafa has been at Cardiff City FC Community Foundation for almost 3 years, working across Cardiff City Premier League Kicks sites in Butetown and Grangetown, two of Cardiff's most diverse local communities and just a stone's throw away from the football club.

Hashim has become an influential figure within the community and a valued member of the Community Foundation’s outreach team, helping to strengthen Cardiff City FC’s local connections and support people from a range of backgrounds through a shared love of football.

This year, we are celebrating 20 years of the Premier League Kicks programme, which uses the power of football and sport to help young people reach their potential, in some of the most high-need areas in England and Wales.

These sessions aligned perfectly with Hashim’s passion for football while allowing him to give back to those in need alongside his other work commitments. Thanks to his dedication and understanding of what local children need to thrive, Hashim has developed his local Premier League Kicks sites into the successful and positive community sessions they are today.

Hashim has created a safe and secure environment for young people to be themselves, establishing himself as someone they can count on, every time.

Beyond these weekly football sessions, Hashim also commits his time and efforts to their personal development, providing participants with unique opportunities such as, social events, player appearances, stadium tours and a wide access to resources and workshops through the Premier League Kicks programme.

Hashim has also helped connect the young people to several meaningful social action projects, opening the door to new experiences outside of their neighbourhoods. This includes bringing them together with members of our Armed Forces Veterans Hub to help maintain the Cardiff City Memorial Garden.

Hashim has demonstrated a real commitment to breaking down barriers to participation and embodies a genuine enthusiasm for community integration. He's played a pivotal role in delivering milestone initiatives, including events marking Black History Month in the heart of Cardiff, as well as the delivery of 'Football for All' - a refugee resettlement programme funded by the National Lottery.

Hashim has become a key figure in championing young people’s inclusion, particularly during the month of Ramadan - a deeply meaningful time in the calendar for many Muslim participants attending Premier League Kicks sessions across Grangetown and Butetown.

His knowledge and strong connection to the community have played a vital role in helping the Community Foundation build a pillar of support across these neighbourhoods, guiding its involvement in community iftars and other meaningful gatherings where children, their friends, and families can come together to break fast.

Hashim’s calm, steady presence has become a real anchor in southern Cardiff, nourishing friendships and a powerful sense of belonging in a community that deserves every chance to thrive.

Diolch Hashim, for everything you do.
