A-Level results day can be a daunting time for students collecting their results, but no matter how your fare on the day, there are always options available to you!
At Cardiff City FC Community Foundation, we have a number of pathways for young students to take.
Here are the inspiring stories of two learners that chose to study on the Community Foundation’s Post-16 Education & Training programmes. They both have bright futures ahead thanks to their hard work, dedication, and the individual support they have received.
Jay O’Flynn
Jay O’Flynn was studying Engineering before joining our BTEC Level 3 in Sport. He wasn’t sure what he wanted to do but after embarking on the course, he knew that engineering wasn’t for him. After chatting to his friends, who were already enrolled at the Community Foundation, he decided to make the move and join us.
Since joining the course Jay’s confidence has increased massively and has gone on to represent the Community Foundation in numerous activities including Futsal team competitions, volunteering at special events and is part of a Student Council.
Jay has been an incredible student and his commitment to learning has paid off. This week he achieved a bank of Merit and Distinctions and is going on to study the new BSc (Hons) Sports Business and Management at the Community Foundation
Our Education Officer Jodie Williams said,
Jay started the course a week later than others but settled in well and quickly became engaged in the course content. Jay has developed keen analytical skills and has become an exemplary student!
He has developed a passion for sport and is looking forward to continuing his studies with Cardiff City FC Community Foundation to complete the BSc (Hons) Sports Business and Management.
Naomi Rockey
Our BTEC Level 3 in Sport stood out for Naomi Rocky, who loved taking part in sports from an early age. Her brother, who had just completed the course and was already moving on to university, encouraged her to sign up and get started.
Naomi was shy and lacking in confidence at the beginning of her studies and could never imagine speaking in front of a group of people that she didn’t know well. After some time working closely with our tutors and in smaller groups, she found her voice and developed her confidence and self-esteem.
“It became easier to get to know everyone and be able to speak if front of people without a fear of judgement”, said Naomi.
“Studying and working with the tutors at Cardiff City FC Community Foundation has allowed me to structure my work better, laying it out in a way that made sense – this played a huge factor in how I worked towards getting the grades”
During her time in high school, Noami didn’t achieve the grades she’d hoped for but was happy to achieve a C grade, however, most of Naomi’s coursework on the Level 3 programme has been to a Merit standard and has even achieved a few Distinctions!
Our Education, Skills and Training Manager Matthew Pugh said,
“From previously having a lack of confidence and being shy in school, Naomi has completed her Level 3 in Sport qualification and is looking to continue her studies with the Community Foundation to on the Foundation Degree in Community Football Coaching and Development”.
No matter what your results today, there are plenty of options available to you at Cardiff City FC Community Foundation, from our BTEC courses, through to our Foundation Degree and our new BSc (Hons) in Sports Business and Management.
