Bluebirds fan hits £500 fundraising goal for a cause close to her heart

19 August 2025

Cardiff City supporter Liz and devoted mum to teenage son Oli, took on the #5KADAY Challenge this August – raising an incredible £500 for Cardiff City FC Community Foundation.

The challenge encourages participants to complete 5km a day, however they choose – whether walking, running, rowing, or cycling – all while raising funds to support projects across South Wales. For Liz, it was the perfect way to stay active while caring for Oli, who recently underwent a major foot operation.

Football is a great source of comfort for Liz and Oli. Through health challenges and personal struggles, matchdays at Cardiff City Stadium have given them joy and distraction - a connection that led Liz to the Foundation’s virtual fundraising initiative.

One programme in particular struck a chord – the 1927 Club, a social hub hosted at the home of Cardiff City Football Club for individuals living with dementia. Earlier this year, Liz sadly lost her mum to dementia, making the cause deeply personal.

Inspired by her mum’s memory, and motivated by Oli’s ongoing health journey, Liz committed to the challenge – becoming one of the Foundation’s top fundraisers.

Football clubs can inspire hope, passion, and a sense of belonging – and we’re so grateful for individuals like Liz who help us share our story and represent the communities we serve.

Liz and Oli will be back in the stands this season, proudly cheering on the Bluebirds and we’ll be cheering them on every step of the way too.
