Grace's story

In high school, Grace struggled with motivation to engage in her subjects and complete her work, resulting in a lack of routine and low self-esteem. Seeking a different path, Grace saw the Community Foundation as an opportunity to blend her love of football with her studies.

Grace’s journey with Cardiff City FC Community Foundation started in the BTEC Level 3 Sport programme. Now in her final year of the Foundation Degree in Community Football Coaching and Development, in partnership with the University of South Wales and EFL in the Community, Grace has excelled academically and become a true Community Hero, supporting others with a desire to break away from traditional education pathways.

HANDS ON LEARNING, REAL WORLD IMPACT.

Our foundation degree combines learning with practical experience, offering work placement opportunities to help equip students with essential skills in real-world environments. Grace made a significant impact while volunteering at St Cenydd Comprehensive School as part of our secondary education programme. By sharing her past experiences and applying the resilience gained during her time at the foundation, she built strong, meaningful connections with the pupils.

Inspired by her personal journey, Grace sought employment outside of her studies to continue creating a supportive environment for those who feel marginalised in her local community. Her empathy helps break down barriers, making her not only a strong mentor and motivator but also an ambassador who embodies our values.

Her hard work and progress earned her an EFL Community Champion nomination and gave her the opportunity to host our annual Impact Celebration at Cardiff City Stadium in front of guests, stakeholders, panellists, and partners.

Matthew Pugh, Education, Skills & Training Manager said:

At Cardiff City FC Community Foundation, we strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment where students of all backgrounds and abilities can unlock their full potential. Through the power of football, and our blended learning approach, our learners are building resilience and confidence needed to help them progress to university or employment.”

GRACE SNELL, SAID:

"The Foundation has given me the courage to align my passion for sport with my future goals. Through opportunities to grow and inspire others using football, I've been able to make a positive impact on children in my local community. As coaches, it's a great achievement to help them get on the right track and provide the sporting environment they deserve. It’s an honour to represent the Foundation, and I’m excited for the future and the chance to help more people like me."
