Beyond the Pitch: Bluebirds take on EFL Week of Action 2023

13 November 2023

From Monday 6th - Friday 10th November, Cardiff City FC Community Foundation and Cardiff City FC joined the EFL's annual Week of Action, where all 72 EFL Clubs and Community Club Organisations come together to showcase the impact of our work in the community across the towns and cities of Wales and England

Ollie Tanner, Mark McGuinness, Rhianne Oakley and Hollie Smith made a special appearance at our Secondary Education project which supports young people who are at risk of not achieving their full potential as they move through the education system.

Cardiff City FC Men’s and Women’s First Team players took part in a Football Drill activity with the class.

The players attended Cardiff West Community High School in Ely – a partner school in our education programme. We provide tailored support to schools like Cardiff West, aiming to support improved attendance, attitudes to and enjoyment of learning, improved behavioural issues, along with improving physical and mental wellbeing.

Year 7 and 8 pupils prepared questions for the players - focusing on healthy living, resilience and teamwork.

Cardiff City FC Community Foundation also ran a bonus session of Fit Bluebirds at Cardiff City Stadium during EFL Week of Action, to celebrate the impact of this transformational free-to-access health scheme run in partnership with the Welsh Government, FA Wales and EFL Trust.

FIT Bluebirds is a FREE health programme for men and women aged 35-65

The EFL's FIT FANS initiative has helped 1000’s of people – football fans just like you – to achieve long-term improvements in weight loss, physical activity, diet and general wellbeing. Participants on average lost over 5% of their body weight during the 12 week programme.

Fit Bluebirds provides Cardiff City fans with a safe and welcoming space to lose weight, get fitter and lead a more active life – fully supported by our Community Foundation coaches.

Football clubs can inspire hope, passion, and a sense of belonging. Working together, the Club and our communities can achieve great things.

Our aim is to change lives and transform communities by providing a supportive network that encourages growth, wellbeing and a sense of belonging.

Today, our organisation achieves an estimated £11 million of social impact value, thanks to the incredible support of our funders, partners and community.

changing lives, transforming communities.

Foundation Director, Gavin Hawkey, said:

"The EFL Week of Action showcases the collective impact of football clubs in their communities. Last year there were over 100,000 engagements in our activities which generated an estimated £11 million in social value. Of course, our work is about changing lives and transforming communities, so we were delighted to share impact stories of some of our service users."
