Cardiff City FC Foundations Walking Football team played their first fixture on Thursday in the House of Sport 2 in Cardiff. The team took on staff from Foundation in a friendly game that saw the newly established team play 30 minutes of football for the first time.
The game will act as a springboard for the players as they look to take on Manchester City FC’s Walking Football team in the New Year at the clubs state of the art facility, the Etihad Campus.
The sessions aim to reintroduce players to the beautiful game and help promote an active and healthy lifestyle. The game is a non-contact game where running, jogging and sprinting are penalised.
Walking Footballs Stuart Hogg said:
“My first game for 30 plus years, it was fantastic!”
Disability & Health Coordinator, Josh Law has this to say about the game:
“It’s fantastic to see the such a strong group of players, considering we have only been running the sessions for just over a month. The guys will use this as an opportunity to prepare for the games we are looking play in the New Year. I’d like to take the opportunity to congratulate the players, some of which have played their first game in some time in a while and to thank Foundation staff for their participation.”
