Cardiff City FC Foundation is seeking fan backing in a bid to secure funding through Aviva’s community fund. The funding, which will be invested into the Foundations ‘Football Fans in Training’ programme, is to be approved through public vote as the foundation goes head to head with others across the UK.
The huge investment needed to tackle this issue is highlighted by the Local Government Association’s estimation that obesity in adults will cost councils £58,585,000 for the upcoming year.
‘Football Fans in Training’ is a weight management programme that will offer male football fans aged 35 to 65 the opportunity to attend a FREE 12-week programme at Cardiff City Football Club, using the brand of Cardiff City Football Club and the unique back drop of the Stadium as a hook.
Participants in the programme will be helped to lose weight, whilst being educated on how to minimise risk factors associated with being overweight or obese. It will also highlight the role physical activity has to play in facilitating a healthy lifestyle.
Such engagement will go towards helping the programme achieve its objectives of:
– Increasing knowledge of diet & nutrition
– Improving lifestyle choices
– Increasing physical activity amongst participants
– Reducing weight and waist measurements
– Increasing engagement in other physical activity
Following delivery, the programme hopes to use participants as ambassadors, role models and advocates to support future recruitment and share their stories.
