Cardiff City Learning Disability Team continued their impressive form in the final Regional FAW PAN Disability League Tournament of the season – the Bluebirds entered two strong teams with high hopes of success on the day.

Both teams started brightly with Cardiff City A beating Race Rovers and Cardiff City B with a win over RCT Tigers. Whilst the A side continued their winning ways with a 1-0 win over Merthyr Town and a 2-0 win over Vale Reds in their following games, Cardiff City B suffered two losses in succession to Coed Eva and Heol Ddu.

Heading into the final games, Cardiff City A had the opportunity to make it a faultless qualifying round and resultantly progress onto the Final, whilst the Bs needed a win to secure a 3rd place play off. Both were close games – the A side beating Newport 2-1 and the Bs managing a 1-0 victory over Race Rovers.

Cardiff City A then faced Coed Eva in a dramatic Final that finished 2 goals a piece at the end of 90 minutes before the game went to penalties. Again, a tough ask for Cardiff City A, who eventually came up trumps through Jason Bendito’s spot kick to end the shoot out at 5-4.

Cardiff City B Team went head to head to Race Rovers once again, as both teams battled it out for 3rd place. In similar fashion to their fellow Bluebirds, the B Team were also taken to penalties after ending normal time at 1-1. Unfortunately though, it was the Rovers who proved themselves from the spot, and Cardiff City Bs concluded their tournament in 4th place.

Disability & Health Assistant Manager, Josh Law said: “Both teams performed extremely well on the day, as they have done all season. It will be a great opportunity for the guys to go and play in Newtown against teams from all over Wales and hopefully they can maintain their good form.”

The regional tournament was the last before June’s National PAN Disability Festival in Newtown, which will bring together teams from all over Wales.
