Cardiff City FC Foundation’s Head of Education and Inclusion, Ria “The Rocket” Male stepped into the ring for an exhilarating evening of white-collar boxing at Cowbridge Leisure Centre, on Saturday 6thDecember.

Ria, who also competed at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games as Goalkeeper for Wales Women’s Hockey, underwent twelve weeks of grueling training in preparation for the event, alongside her fulltime work schedule and training regime for Oxford Hawks Hockey Team. The hard work and dedication proved to pay off for Ria however, who was victorious on the night with a points victory, impressing the judges beyond just the three round fight to be recognized as “Fighter of The Night”.

The event attracted an audience of over 500 people, with Ria alone raising an impressive £1000 for the Foundation’s Social Inclusion Department. Speaking on the event, Social Inclusion Manager, Richard Archer said;

“Ria showed true passion and commitment, dedicating her time to a tough training camp in preparation for this charity fight.  She showed real determination, composure, and heart which not only led to her winning her fight but also being voted ‘fighter of the night’.  As a friend and colleague, I know I speak on behalf of all at Cardiff City in saying that we are all very proud of Ria’s achievement.”
