PREMIER LEAGUE KICKS

18th January 2016

The Premier League Kicks project offers FREE sports coaching sessions to young people of ages 14-19, providing access to health initiatives and constructive exercise. During the first 12 months of the programme nearly 700 young people attended sessions – and this is only expected to increase each year.

The primary objective of the initiative is to promote sport as a recreational alternative to anti-social behavior within the local communities that are typically associated with high levels of crime. In the first three months of 2015, local statistics showed a 40% reduction in anti-social behavior.

Public Services Minister Leighton Andrews AM said:

“Initiatives such as this engage young people and encourage them to become part of the community within which they live. I applaud Lewis and his colleagues in the British Transport Police’s Cardiff neighborhood policing team on making this the success it has become in their area.”
