On Thursday 3rd December Cardiff City FC Foundation played host to a new National Futsal Competition launched by Ferrero and the Football League Trust.
The kinder + Sport project, is a new school competition for Under 16 Boys and girls run by the Football League Trust and organized by Football League clubs throughout England and Wales.
An exciting day at the Cardiff City House of Sport saw 225 students with 15 boy’s teams and 10 girl’s teams competing and creating an extremely enjoyable spectacle. The silky ball skills, increased touches, creativity and tactical nous on display saw the boys of Aberdare Community School and St. John Baptist Church in Wales School girls team crowned the winners.
Bruno Manga & Tony Watt presented the medals to the winners and trophies to the captains to end a fantastic event for all involved.
The aim of Ferrero’s global Kinder + Sport project is to increase levels of physical activity among young generations around the world. The Kinder + Sport Futsal Cup builds on the success of last year’s Kinder + Sport events, also delivered by Ferrero and the Football League Trust.
Mike Evans, Director of Operations with the Football League Trust commented “Last year, by working with Ferrero, we increased participation in the Football League’s Kids and Girls Cup by over 20% with over 20,000 children taking part. This year the aim is to use the same model and momentum to deliver the Kinder + Sport Futsal Cup and increase sports participation among 15-16 year olds, which is an age where we often see participation levels dropping off.”
Futsal has become the world’s fastest growing indoor sport with significant growth in England and Wales over recent years, and is fundamental part of football development.
The Foundation offer a Futsal & Education Programme where students represent Cardiff City FC playing other professional clubs from across the Football League on a weekly basis, whilst working towards completion of a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Performance & Excellence).
