9th March 2016

In January 96 primary schools from across South Wales took part in the Kinder + Sport Football League Kids Cup, ran in partnership with New Directions Education. Out of all 96 schools that took part, St Bernadette’s Primary School of Cardiff were the overall winners, and they went on to represent Cardiff City FC at Reading in the Regional Finals on Friday 4th March.

The settings couldn’t have been better, with the sun shining on a beautiful winter’s day in Reading. St Bernadette’s wore the Cardiff City away kit and recorded three 0-0 draws in their opening fixtures against hosts Reading, Brighton and MK Dons.

After three fantastic, yet slightly unrewarding performances, the Bluebirds were able to record there first win of the tournament, with a convincing 2-0 victory over Birmingham before losing 1-0 to Fulham. The Bluebirds needed a victory to progress in to the knock out stages but could only manage a 0-0 draw against championship rivals QPR.

Well done to all eight lads – an absolute credit to St Bernadette’s Primary School, with fantastic football skills and a great attitude.
