Foundation volunteers – THANK YOU.

7th June 2016

To the Foundation’s army of volunteers – THANK YOU.

The Foundation prides itself on supporting the development of individuals, and volunteering is a perfect example of this.

Here’s just one story of many:

Luke Baker has been volunteering within the Foundation’s Disability & Health Department since September 2015. He’s been helping Foundation staff by coaching at the Hollies after school club and at the Junior Learning Disability sessions since the start of the season.

In 2014, Luke became one of the first individuals with Down’s syndrome to earn his FA Level 1 coaching badge, through DSActive’s Coach-Ability course. Since that time Luke has coached at a number of sessions run by Cardiff City FC Foundation. Through Luke’s hard work and support from the Down’s Syndrome Association, Luke has been able to put these skills to good use and he is thriving from it.

“My favorite thing has been helping the kids in the school. I like being a volunteer, I’ve been able to learn new skills and do new activities and I am very proud of my achievements so far.”

Simon James from the Down’s Syndrome Association, WorkFit project said:

“It’s been a pleasure to work with Cardiff City FC Foundation and support Luke whist volunteering in his role at the club. Luke is a perfect example of a young man who wants to learn, develop and become a role model. He has so much to offer, we are very proud of his achievements to date”.

James Medder from DS Active said:

“It is great to see Luke helping others by combining the skills he gained from completing his FA Level 1 coaching award, with the experience he has from playing with the DSActive Bluebirds.”
