Each member of Cardiff City’s 2014/15 Sky Bet Championship squad and senior staff has pledged a day’s wage in support of Cardiff City Foundation’s second annual Foundation Day.
Foundation Day 2015 will coincide with Cardiff City FC’s home fixture with Birmingham City FC on Saturday, 21st March, with fund-raising activities taking place throughout the day in and around Cardiff City Stadium.
Cardiff City Foundation is the charitable arm of Cardiff City Football Club, which on an annual basis requires in excess of £1.5 million to operate. The Foundation plays a central role in improving the lives and opportunities of people in its local communities, providing for previously under-represented groups.
In 2014, Cardiff City’s inaugural Foundation Day raised in excess of £150,000 – an amount that greatly contributed to the Foundation extending its reach to over 35,000 young people across South Wales.
CEO of Cardiff City Foundation, Marc Cahill said: “We’re very proud of the work that we carry out and the positive impact we create upon young people’s lives – whether this is through engaging them in education programmes, creating sporting opportunities or simply raising their aspirations.
“But to carry on the good work carried out by our staff on a day to day basis, we must find innovative ways to continue securing the funds to operate. Our sincere thanks to Tan Sri Vincent Tan for his continued support of the Foundation, as well as the First Team players and staff for their incredible generosity in donating a day’s wage. This kind of support does not happen at many football clubs, and in conjunction with the time they give up weekly to support the Foundation’s programmes, our football staff truly are a credit to Cardiff City Football Club and the people of South Wales.
“Last season, Foundation Day proved to be hugely successful and we hope that this year can be even better.”
