Euro 2016 has proved to be one of the most exciting European Championships to date. Amongst all that drama the Foundation’s FPC & Futsal students laced up their boots and created some dramatic excitement of their own.

With four teams competing, the first round draw saw Aberdare take on cowbridge, whilst the Foundation’s Futsal team hosted Croesyceiliog/King Henry combined XI.

First Leg Results:

Aberdare 5 – 1 Cowbridge

Aberdare’s dominant first half performance saw them comfortably ease to victory, although a goal from an injury tarnished Cowbridge side did dent Aberdare’s first half fluidity.

Aberdare responded well to secure a convincing and commanding victory going into the second leg.

Futsal 5 – 0 Croesyceiliog/King Henry

The Foundation’s Futsal boys hosted the combined XI at Leckwith 3G and it was the visitors who started brightly, creating numerous chances. They were unlucky not to take the lead after being denied by the bar and post.

As the game went on Futsal’s pace and power got the better of the opposition, bursting through the defense time and time again, which saw them net five goals, Curtis Watkins finish being the pick of the bunch.

Second Leg Results:

Cowbridge 1 – 3 Aberdare

It was the home side that started brightly playing some attractive football, but failed to capitalise on a number of opportunities. Aberdare took full advantage and on the 20th minute scored after the Cowbridge keeper fumbled in the five-yard box.

Cowbridge responded well by hitting Aberdare on the counter attack and scoring a fantastic team goal, leveling the game at 1-1 going into the interval.

Aberdare came out strong and created ample amount of chances before capitalising on the 60th minute. With their now tails up, Aberdare continued their attacking display and got a justly reward by scoring two goals in quick succession to finish off the game.

Croesyceiliog/King Henry 7 – 0 Futsal

The game of tournament so far saw the Croesy/King Henry boys complete the impossible comeback. After being 5-0 down in the first leg, Ben Slades side dug deep to blitz the Futsal boys and claim their place in the final.

Captain Curtis Methven showed his leadership skills by scoring a hat trick on the day and inspiring his team to a truly remarkable second leg performance.

Futsal did have opportunities to score but were unable to hit the target on more than one occasion.
