During the 2012/13 season, Cardiff City Football Club launched an innovative and game-changing incentive – Club Goal of the Month.
The concept allows every player representing Cardiff City Football Club – at every level – to capitalise on their on-field achievements by battling it out each month in a bid to win the Club Goal of the Month trophy. A simple, unifying concept.
Four years on and Cardiff City Football Club is still, as we understand, the only club worldwide to acknowledge nine different levels of football and unite them in one competition. From the Senior Team, to the Academy, Development, Women’s, Disability and Futsal Teams – and including nominations from our Soccer Schools, ‘Youbirds’ sector and Cardiff City Foundation’s Football Performance Centres.
THE WALLS OF HONOUR
Ahead of our fixture with Rotherham United, Chairman Mehmet Dalman, CEO Ken Choo and Sean Morrison unveiled our new Club Goal of the Month ‘Wall of Honour’ in the Family Stand. Our latest monthly winner was Daniel Schudhardt (pictured with Ken below). Each monthly winner and seasonal winner now have their names etched in stone – in the dedicated Family Stand area, and in every stand at Cardiff City Stadium.
A new 179” RICOH HD projector adorns each stand too, as part of the Club’s ongoing digital strategy for the betterment of the match-day experience. The big screens, in proximity to the Club GOTM walls, show the nominated goals each match-day, in addition to live footage from the day’s Premier League and Championship games.
COMPLETING THE CIRCLE – FANS & PLAYERS
Club Goal of the Month encourages supporters for their input via YouTube and Facebook and thus to cast a free vote for a shortlisted nominee. Each supporter who votes automatically earns the chance to win a pair of hospitality tickets for a home game at CCS.
For Cardiff City FC Foundation, Goal of the Month has provided an additional incentive for its participants and has often proved lucrative for its nominees. In fact, a whopping 58% of all Goal of the Month winners, since its inauguration in August 2012, have played for a team governed by The Foundation – and two of those have gone on to take the Club Goal of the Season title.
CLUB GOTM ‘PRIDE’
When speaking about Club Goal of the Month,Tan Sri Vincent Tan said: “Our Club Goal of the Month competition – what it achieves and its values – is something we’re very proud of. I’m particularly pleased to see players, staff and the local community all represented in a competition such as this.
“We are highlighting excellence at every level. This is an important step too, of us sourcing young local talent as future first-team prospects.”
Cardiff City CEO, Ken Choo, reflected: “To officially open the Club Goal of the Month area in the evolving Peter’s Pies Family Stand was a proud moment.
“The Club’s Community links are very strong indeed, recognized consistently at a national level. The work that goes in to covering our nine levels of football is forward-thinking and diligent. We look forward to watching the concept grow.”
Cardiff City FC Foundation Director Gavin Hawkey added: “The Goal of the Month initiative brings a unique, added incentive for all of the Foundation’s players and participants. The Foundation’s reach covers such a diverse range of ages and abilities, which in itself is something we are extremely proud of. The fact that the Foundation’s teams have been so successful in competing against their footballing heroes, proves that the work we’re doing as an entire club is moving in the right direction.”
“The new Wall of Honour in The Family Stand looks fantastic, and is something that every winner whose name is displayed there, can be extremely proud of. I’d like to thank Tan Sri Vincent Tan and the staff at Cardiff City FC for extending such opportunities to the Foundation.”
As a Club and Foundation united, thank you to all of our players and supporters who compete and vote each month to make Club Goal of the Month the triumph it’s become. We’re extremely proud of supporting our grass-roots levels in such a unique and visible way, making for complete inclusion and participation.
