Foundation & His Church Support Local Schools with Breakfast Cereal Giveaway
On Thursday 5th January 2017 the Foundation teamed up with national charity ‘His Church’, providing over 250 local school children with the opportunity to be involved in the ‘Team Up To Be Champions, School Breakfasts For Winners’ giveaway at Cardiff International Sports Campus.
The event saw close to 4,000 boxes of cereal distributed to local primary and secondary schools from Cardiff and the surrounding areas.
The event was part of a new project developed by ‘His Church’ in 2016, which aims to improve educational attainment and inclusion through the provision of good quality breakfast cereal to school breakfast clubs, using local football club Trusts and Foundations as the mechanism to distribute in the local community.
‘His Church’ is a charitable organisation that focuses on helping vulnerable people locally and nationally as well as overseas aid/famine relief, general charitable purposes and prevention or relief of poverty.
The giveaway coincided with the English Football League Trust’s ‘Kinder Kids Cup’ competition, also held at the campus, and provided local schools with the opportunity to attend and collect cases of breakfast cereals.
All cereals collected on the day will be used at school breakfast clubs, or distributed to those currently experiencing, or at risk of food poverty.

‘We have fantastic relationships with local schools and the Cardiff City FC brand is a powerful engagement tool. By providing opportunities for physical activity and promoting healthy eating we hope to help create a healthier Wales. We would like to thank ‘His Church’ for making this event possible’
Richard Humphreys (Senior Coordinator, His Church Charity)
‘His Church’ are delighted to partner with Cardiff City Foundation who do exceptional work within the community helping people of all ages to be more fit and active, included and knowledgeable. Our “Team Up To Be Champions Project” combined with the “Kinder Kids Cup”, gives the perfect opportunity to provide great quality breakfast cereal for schools and families whilst promoting healthy eating, sports-participation, social inclusion and educational attainment in an exciting and inspirational environment.
A study carried out in 2013 highlighted the importance of breakfast, by concluding that a child arriving at school hungry, will lose one hour of learning time within that day.
With one in seven children throughout the United Kingdom currently going without breakfast on a daily basis, it is important that initiatives such as this one exist to support those in need.
The Foundation would like to thank His Church for their generosity and support with making this giveaway possible, and are looking forward to working with the charity on exciting projects in the future.
